Jan 4, 2000 9:38pm ron@random-abstract.com
Ever since I started playing C&C I thought how cool it would be if they could do a 3-D version like at the end of C&C1. Well finally Westwood got around to doing it. Here is an expanded story on it. Command & Conquer - Renegade

Super CD out. DVD Audio still on the way
Jan 4, 2000 9:44pm ron@random-abstract.com
Now that the hackers have broken the DVD-Video Standard, it seems the companys pushing the DVD-Audio have decided to hold off releasing the gear and re-code the encryption so that it will be more secure. I don't know why they didn't in the first place. I was at Tweeters the other day, they had about 40-50 Super CDs on a shelf in the corner. Of course there was no Super CD players to play them in the store.   Super CD / DVD Audio Story

Gores confusion on Creationism and Evolution
Jan 5, 2000 11:45pm ron@random-abstract.com
I was watching the debate tonight. Gore did it again, the earlier debate he screwed up as far as I could tell he said evolution when he meant creationism. So tonight in the debate he said what he meant last time.

01/05/00 I haven't found a source yet on this one, but this is pretty much what was said tonight. Al Gore asked about his religious views and alienating other religions. He said  Creationism has no place being taught in school I believe there should be a strong separation of church and state.

12/18/99 Al Gore again in a debate directly quoted "And I think that carries with it not only an obligation to respect the Constitution. For example, I think the Constitution forbids the teaching of evolution in schools, unless - except in religion class, not in science class." Quoted here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 08/27/99  WASHINGTON - Weighing in on a Kansas controversy,  Vice President Al Gore's campaign said Thursday he favors  the teaching of evolution in public schools but would not  oppose instruction in creationism if taught as part of a religious  course.
  "They may teach creationism in the context of a religious course; that is clearly up to the local  districts to decide," said Alejandro Cabrera, speaking for Gore. He said Gore bases his opinion on   court rulings that allow the teaching of creationism as part of a religious course but not as a science.
  The Kansas state school board this month adopted new testing standards that play down the scientific importance of evolution. Local school districts will decide what subjects are taught but critics and advocates of the new standards say the decision could bring more religion into the classroom.
  The U.S. Supreme Court has forbidden the teaching of creationism, the belief that a higher power created the universe, because of the religious foundation of that idea.
  "The vice president favors the teaching of evolution in public schools," Cabrera said.
  "Obviously that decision should and will be made at the local level and localities should be free to decide their own curriculum," he said.

They certainly do qualify as hackers. Breaking into 17 differant ISPs and stole
200,000 accounts from Pacific Bell. They weren't even adults, that the funny

 Don't mess with the Multinationals. So your a hacker 16 not in the US,
I guess your not immune to the long arm of law. Jon Johansen
did, 16-year-old Norwegian boy had his house raided and was detained.
He just happens to be one to the hackers involved in decoding the Flawed 40
bit DVD encryption scheme. Story Here
The norwegian hacker Johansen (and two others) called themselves:
MoRE (Masters of Reverse Engineering)
The key is 5 bytes long and MoRE got more than 170 working keys.
Each DVD has 400 copies of the same unique decryption key, each encrypted
with every unlock code. From what I've read reverse engineering something isn't
considered illegal in the U.S.

Finally got rid of my last ISA card in my PC, I just installed a Kingston 100/10
PCI Ethernet Card. I can chuck the ISA combo NE2000 card now. It's pretty
cool, I swear my machine is a bit zippy now. Something tells my this 8 gig
hard drive I bought 3 months ago just wont be enough space though. I just
have too many PC Toys, and I can only think of 2 or 3 more to get

Boy 2000 looks to be the year of the Hackers.
@Wednesday, January 26, 2000 - 00:53:15 - TU
Showing off to MSNBC reporters a couple hackers exploited some holes
in AOLs Instant Messaging program. Story Here
Hmmm what does the MS in MSNBC stand for? I forget ?

Good old MS still has an injunction against them
so they wont be able to use the trademarked Java stuff from sun.
Hypotheticlly when you lincense and re-write someones code you can't
get away with that even if your a monolopy.
Oh yeah that whole Monopoly case maybe wrapping up too.

On the other side of the world, the japanese government had some hacker trouble too.  Its not just putting playboys links these hackers had some poltical motives. Story here

Just think politics in the year 2000 discredit your openent just by hacking into
his site. Why fight a war when you can wage a small hacker attack on some other country and screw with their infastructure./RANT OFF

I so damn sick of those X10 Cam ads. I say boycott the camera and tell
them to change the add. Its been the same for over 9 months. Make the
pain in my head from these ads go away.

Ahh the game that started it all. Activision has Licensed the Quake 3 engine and is planning on doing a Return to Castle Wolfenstein. What a
whacked out game, I wonder if they are going to do the whole level to level
thing like the original. of course they redid it in Doom also. Story Here

No News is still bad news..
Turns out those signals that could have been from the mars probe didn't pan out. Cool Facts 16 minutes for light waves to from mars to earth, 181 million miles. Damn thats a long way away.

Finally 1 unit decoded, Blah Blah Blah
@Sunday, January 30, 2000 - 22:43:53 - tu
My machine at work over the weekend decoded 1 whole unit for the SETI
program. I am doing it mostly because my work machine is on 24-7 and the cpu just isn't doing anything. I am also running it at home, while I
am away from my machine and sometimes overnight. Found the
Netscape Website Garage
a great place to check your site or page for errors or problems.
Seems it didn't like the size and spelling on my site, oh well. An interesting high speed internet access story It mentions AT&T is playing around with fixed-wireless in Texas. VCDs are Totally Cool !!!!!
@Saturday, January 29, 2000 - 13:53:41 - tu
I finally did it. I have only been talking about it for 5-6 weeks,
I finally made my first VCD!!!.
A video cd is a compact disc that contains an mpeg-1 video stream..
I burned 11 Japanese Pop music videos to 1 vcd. A couple of the videos had sound problems, but I think the original audio wasn''t high enough like 11khz instead of 22 or 44khz. I wasn't sure it had worked until I fired it up in my Pioneer 302 DVD player, it can read VCDs and also works with CDRs.
Totally-bored...
@Thursday, January 27, 2000 - 19:10:48 - tu

Lobster Institute
