Spent the morning reading, the afternoon cleaning. I even watched MTV
they had some new video on TV, Robbie Williams Rock DJ the video. I couldn't
believe it first the guy gets naked then he starts peepling off his skin
and his muscles. This was way to gr aphic, and it was on a saturday afternoon.
I guess I am getting old. I got to see the Madonna, Ali G video. Very
funny stuff, I wish his stuff was on DVD instead of just PAL VHS tapes.

Divx @Monday,
September 25, 2000 - 00:48:37 - tu
I have been reading about the Divx thing. Pretty amazing stuff. The movie
industry has the
same kinda stuff to worry about that the record companies have been dealing
with MP3s.
Divx is a hacked mpeg-4 compression scheme. The typical method is decrypt
a DVD with
some kind of DeCss program. The next step is coverting the file to Divx
with an encoder like
Flaskmpeg. The sound is coverted with an MP3 codec and the video with
the Divx codec.
The compression is around 10 or 8 to one. If you were to convert a movie
it would probably
fit easily on one cdr. Of course the DeCss code and all programs that
use it have been ruled
illegal in the courts. It has all been made a crime to link to the program.
The main reason
people claim to be doing all of this is the DVD standard only works on
Win9x and Macs OS.
So people Linux, BeOS etc.. have thrown alot of effort into creating all
this software.

Mark your calendar or Palm V. You can expect to die on:
February 13, 2050 at the age of 78 years old.
On that date you will most likely die from: Heart Attack (25%) Cancer (25%)
Alien Abduction (8%) Loneliness (7%) Horrible Accident (5%) Drowning (5%)
Submissive Introvert Concrete Feeler (hmm, I am Abstract just ask anyone.)
Like just 11% of the population you are a helper(SICF).
You are very tentative in the world and introverted with people--which means
you are

It also points out that many famous people have done perfectly fine with

Neil Bush, Georges younger brother has been diagnosed as dyslexic.

get help.
Now some of the funnier goof ups quoted in the articles.
"Reading is the basics for all learning,"
"Put food on your family," and
"The senator cannot have it both ways.
He can't take the high horse and then claim the low road."
America as the world's ''pacemakers'' instead of ``peacemakers.''

On the campaign trail, Bush has called himself the First Lady of Texas

Republican TV Ad is making some news for a possible subliminal TV Ad.
Words flash on the screen to echo the announcer's message:
``The Gore prescription plan: Bureaucrats decide.''
As the announcer says ``Bureaucrats decide,'' the word ``rats,''
in large capital letters, flashes on and off the
screen just as the phrase ``Bureaucrats decide,'' appears.
I watched the video of it and it is pretty crazy.
They claim its rats as in bureaucrats, why didn't they add the c or something.
They flash text over the ad twice the first you can't read any of it.
The second time RATS jump right out at you.
Pretty sleaze or stupid one or the other.

Interesting arguement. Like tobacco, meat is a leading cause of medical
problems.
Tax it to recover the health costs.

Bush caught in the act

Picking his nose at
a Rangers game.
ESPN caught it on tape. Pretty nasty not for the easily squeamish.
Reminds me of the rich kid in the Caddyshack movie, when they bet if he
would pick his nose.
Woops was that microphone

Saturday Fun
@Monday, September 4, 2000 - 09:32:24

I did the LAN part thing Saturday. Three of us playing mostly Rogue Spear
for over 10 hours.
I can't remember the last time that much fun, or played games for so long.
I am more of a
Quake Doom kinda guy, but there is something to be said about a one shot
one kill kinda game.
Sunday I spent a large part of the day reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
by
Robert A Heinlein. I burned thru the book cover to cover. I love to do
that but sometimes
I kinda burned out on reading Sci Fi that way.
I had such a hard time find drives for my CT7160 card. I found some the
Luxsonor ls220 its
the same card from what I have read. The drivers work great in my machine.
I will keep a
copy of the Drivers online Here
seti @Friday,

Totally Useless has crunched 501+ seti units, thats a whole lotta data.
Thats like 200 megs
of data. One of the other machines at work, the speed demon Athlon 600
will be doing packets
now too. That should tear thru some seti units.
My Creative 7160 decoder card is really just a Luxsonor LS220.
I am running the LS220 drivers, they come with a PC-DVD player program.
The pan and scan TV aspect ration thing is fixed by the new
drivers and the DVD playing software is a much better too.
Crash and Burn
@Friday, September 1, 2000 - 11:24:42

I thought netscape crashes were bad. I crashed netscape a couple
times to many this morning so I switched to the Dreaded IE.
Used is for a hour or so, got a Kernel32.dll crash. Ouch.
So I restart the machine and I have lost my display drivers.
16 color 640x480. Reinstalled just fine, but the whole IE
being incontrol of Windows is pretty scary.
Time For Bed

I have been hacking away at the DVD stuff. I have the card and drvie working.
I am using the
original DVD software player that came with the machine, but the Overlay
driver is 15 months
newer. Using the newer dvd player screws up the video output to the computer.
I have gotten
the region to open, and I had been able to disable the macrovision. The
TV is working correctly
very very nice video out. Three things.
1. I can't seem to get the TV to format anything 16x9 correctly it stretches
it to 4:3
2. I can't get mpg files to TV out, but I can rename mpg files to VOB
and then TV out =)
3. Trying to find out if any other soft DVD player recognize the Creative
TV DVD decoder.
