WFA @Monday, April 30, 2001 - 23:53:31 - tu
Played some more weapons factory. I dunno why I like that game, sometimes
it can get so fustrating, other times its just great. I guess its a mixture
of how much I suck verses how much other people suck. My machine doesn't suck
but 56k kinda sucks. I found my binding from 2.1 so I am using all the binds
to kick butt. There seems to be alot of changes to the game. sentry guns seem
weaker, marine floating mines seem stronger and the chaingunners seem a bit
more deadlier. These new levels are great, alot of thought and work went into
them. I even saw some player handles I recognize from 3-4 months ago.

Just got this too. Monday, April 30, 2001 9:56 PM
>I found some more posts on sci.astro.seti on Usenet,
>under the heading of "Signal?" This one the most interesting:

"I have received a response directly from Carol Oliver at University of Western Sidney
which runs Parkes which confirms that this is either a mistake or a hoax.

"Dear Jason, I can categorically say this is a hoax.
Note these things:

1. No source at Parkes was quoted (no-one has been approached)
2. No source at SETI Australia was quoted and we are the organisation running the SETI experiment at Parkes (again no-one has been approached).

By the way, I've never heard of Radio Suisse Romande in Australia
(including as a foreign correspondent).
Please feel free to contact Helen Sim, the Communications Manager for the Australia Telescope National facility (which includes Parkes)

Thank You Charlie.

Parkes Observatory @Monday, April 30, 2001 - 21:39:04 - tu
I had to know, so I called the Parkes Observatory in
Australia. The people I talked to said the radio
station got mixed up. He mentioned something about
a kids science project. If there was a discovery
they would have it all over the place. He also said
there would be something online about the mix up.
No signals.

Zapped all that other stuff to stop any more possible confusion.

This thing kicks butt, I love it. Jaton el-cheapo, they didn't even put a fan on it.That heatsink is massive I have never seen one so big.
Quake 3 screams 1280x1024 maxxed out detail, very nice frame rate. I dropped down to 1024x768 the monitor only does 60hz above that. I am only running a k6 400mhz and it still rocks. Everything is running at 85 hz and much sharper than the TNT2.

Quake 3 Mod Weapons Factory 2.9
It's going to take awhile to get back in the WFA thing. A whole bunch of cool
new maps. I have to remap all the binds for each class. I can see myself getting
back into this game. The whole new Q3 interface & WFA look very different
and very polished.

Fun, Ouch, Fun Saturday, April 28, 2001 10:46 PM
I survived. That was a heck of alot of fun. We had 10? guys yeah two 5 man teams.
We played capture the flag and then later defend the flag, that one was alot of fun.
I used a Brass Eagle Blade El cheapo 25 dollar walmart special. The gun did much
better than I thought. I went through 5-6 CO2 tubes and 200-250 paintballs? I got in a
my share of hits and took my share. It's a very hard experience to try to describe.
The woods we played in were really thick, alot of undergrowth. I think 1/3 of my
shots hit branches and trees. We had some anti-fog spray so my mask and
glasses didn't fog up too much. Does it hurt? Sure it hurts, not to bad though.
I would do it every weekend if I had the time and money.

These pictures are of my left and right arm. It seems I am a bit wider than
most of the trees I was hiding behind so my arms took all the hits. I got one in the
combat harness and didn't even feel it. I got double hit on the right arm by one
of the semi-autos. I yelled "I'm out" before he got me there again with a third shot.

I think my boss got me on this one.
"I think thats gonna leave a mark"

Semi Auto 2 shots, 2 hits, 2 seconds.

Sting on Bush
WCR sent me better copy of those Sting quotes.
"I'm concerned about him, generally," Sting says of the new President. "I'm not sure he really understands a lot of issues. He seems to be given his lines by other people." Sting believes that Bush erred by recently pulling out of the Kyoto agreement, a 1997 international accord to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. "[Bush] said there was no scientific proof for it," says Sting, "but he says he believes in God, and as far as I know, there is no scientific proof of that, either." Sting knows that as someone who lives here only part-time, he runs the risk of antagonizing people by shooting off his mouth. But he's willing to take that chance. "I'm a singer," he says. "I do not have a political voice in this country. It's up to you guys to change things. I don't think Bush is at the helm of anything. That's my impression of him. I hope I'm wrong."

I did a re-format last night. Its been like 14-15 months since the last
re-format. This machine of mine at home is a bit fussy so I don't like
to tempt fate. Yes it did not boot up without a bit of tweaking. I had
to install a VIA chipset patch for the AGP drivers. I also know 3 or 4
other things not to try on this beasty. I got sick of crashing out of
Rouge Spear last night and decided to start from scratch.

My boy dropped my visor in the rubber case. It wouldn't turn on.
I reset it, there was nothing in the memory. I had done a backup recently
so that was ok. The other problem was major vertical streaking. Alot of it
went away when after I opened it. I don't see any of it now, I think it was a
temporary problem. It's back together and still working. Larger Picture Here

Canadian PM warns the rest of Canada about Bush.
Thanks for the story wcr. Dug up another copy of it here
Part of the article - A frustrated Jean Chretien warned his Liberal MPs yesterday the country is in for four very tough years dealing with George Bush - but vowed he would play hardball with the new U.S. president on trade issues.
Without using the terms, one source said, he left caucus with the impression he felt the new U.S. president was politically naive and had a steep learning curve when it came to relations between Ottawa and Washington.

Using the IRDA Port @Thursday, April 5, 2001 - 17:28:09 - tu
I got it to work. My Visor syncs to Notebook with a sync cable.
I followed the Handspring help page info and used IrLink 1.5
I am pretty sure I need the IRLink software because the Visor
is not running a palm OS 3.3 or higher. That Palm OS 3.3+ lets you choose
an IR Sync option in the Hot Sync menu. Also it doesn't like 115.2 only 57.6
Like someone pointed out to me. It has no practical use, its totally useless.

Did the Tekken Tag Tournament thing. Amazing game, the tag thing is alot of fun and adds another level to the game play. Considering what tekken1 was verses Tekken 3 on the playstation, TTT is a nice jump on Tekken3 and its just a first gen PS2 game on a CD not a DVD. Keyboardman and I did the Team tag on the Arcade mode, we unlocked 4-5 extra palyers and Tekken Bowling. I rule at Tekken bowling. Did I mention I will be getting me one of these, hell maybe I'll the the abandon the PC for a game platform thing again.

Too many toys, I sometimes forget how many I have and how lucky I am.
I used to be very anti gaming pc upgrade. I spent my money on my playstation
back then so I was able to jump a generation or so on the upgrade game.
I don't have a credit card and even if I did I wouldn't buy computer toys with it.
It can get way too easy to buy stuff and say you'll pay for it later. I am spending
my state tax returns on that notebook. I am also getting a Netgear 10/100 PCMCIA
network card and a ADS PCMCIA USB adaptor. I should be all set with those 2 toys.
I am surprised how many people don't have USB devices I have several USB devices
and I could think of another 3 or 4 I could use. I would be cool with my camera and
my notebook going around filling up the camera with photos and dumping them into
the notebook.

Popular e-mail campaign. People are E-mailing the White House on Bush's Global Warming Policy
Friends of Earth Homepage
Page on E-mailing the Whitehouse

My contribution...
I am writing because I am concerned with the White Houses lack
of concern for the Enivornment. Global Warming is one of the most
serious problems we face today. I am disappointed in seeing the
President oppose many items recently that can help the Environment.
I am opposed to the president's plans to drill for oil in the Arctic
Refuge. I was also disappoint to see the US abandon the Kyoto Treaty.
I thought when Mr. Bush talked about lower CO2 emissions he was serious,
I don't think people can put a price on global warming. Global Warming
and the Environment are serious cross-party issues and steps should be
taken to limit our impact on planet andd our children's future.
