I was very surprised to get an e-mail friday evening.
It was from Congressmen Tom Allen
Back in January I Wrote my members of congress
about the high power navy sonar that seems to be killing whales.
This issue disturbed me enough to get off my butt and write.
I also mentioned it in my June archive.
I was rather surprised to hear back from anyone on the issue.
"I believe that we must proceed carefully with the LFA sonar, and
must ensure that all concerns regarding negative impacts on whales
and other marine mammals have been adequately addressed."
The letter goes on to state his contacting people in the National Marine
Fisheries Service about his concerns and they are holding discussion on it.
Concern, but not officially opposed to it.
I suppose thats better than not being heard at all.
If you just sit back and not even bothering to let someone
know how you feel on an issue your just wasting air.

Cheney gets a call from his "boss", W.
"I've got a problem," says W.
"What's the matter?" asks Cheney.
"Well, you told me to keep busy in the Oval Office, so, I got a jigsaw puzzle, but it's too hard. None of the pieces fit together and I can't find any edges."
"What's it a picture of?" asks Cheney.
"A big rooster," replies W.
"All right," sighs Cheney, "I'll come over and have a look."
So he leaves his office and heads over to the Oval Office. W points at the jigsaw on his desk.
Cheney looks at the desk and then turns to W and says, "For crying out loud, Georgie - put the corn flakes back in the box."

McCain Statement @Thursday, May 24, 2001 - 14:30:18 - tu
"Although we have lost our majority in the Senate, I do believe Senator Jeffords' departure can have a positive impact on how our party responds to members who occasionally dissent from party orthodoxy. For his votes of conscience, he was unfairly targeted for abuse, usually anonymously, by short-sighted party operatives from their comfortable perches in K Street offices, and by some Republican members of Congress and their staff. Perhaps those self-appointed enforcers of party loyalty will learn to respect honorable differences among us, learn to disagree without resorting to personal threats, and recognize that we are a party large enough to accommodate something short of strict unanimity on the issues of the day. Tolerance of dissent is the hallmark of a mature party, and it is well past time for the Republican Party to grow up."
Jeffords leaving @Thursday, May 24, 2001 - 13:41:38 - tu
I think its more about how non-inclusive and conservative Republicans are then about how it gives the balance of power to the Democrats. Don't get me wrong I will be grinning about this one for the next several days. I am thinking about the next supreme court nominees etc too.
BBC of course did execellent job covering Jeffords leaving the Republicans.
There were alot of good quotes coming out of this. Here is a few worth reading.
``I have changed my party label, but I have not changed my beliefs. Indeed, my decision is about affirming the principles that have shaped my career" - James Jeffords
``Looking ahead I can see more and more instances where I will disagree with the president on very fundamental issues: the issues of choice, the direction of the judiciary, tax and spending decisions, missile defense energy and the environment,'' - James Jeffords
"Increasingly, I find myself in disagreement with my party. I understand that many people are more conservative than I am and they form the Republican Party. Given the changing nature of the national party it has become a struggle for the leaders to deal with me and indeed for me to deal with them," - James Jeffords
``I think it's unfortunate that the Republican Party has been such a difficult place for moderates,'' said Barbara Snelling, a state senator and former lieutenant governor. ``The party has changed, and now it doesn't seem to be able to live with moderates.''

(Or: why are some people saying that Pluto shouldn't be considered a planet? If so, what is it instead?)
Some astronomers have suggested that Pluto should be considered to be, not a planet, but the largest member of the Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt is a group of objects orbiting outside Neptune. It was only theory, until the first first object there was discovered in 1992.

I tried my Stingray on sunday. I fired off about 60 rds and my wife about 30rds.
The adjustment I made to the velocity seemed to do the trick. It was crazy I
had a brass eagle paintball bounce off a tree and land near my feet. I would
not have wanted to have been hit by that one. I had one ball break, but that
was my fault. I tried to fire a ball after the cartridge had been emptied.
We were about 50 ft from our targets. I was able to hit 3 inch sapplings various
other stationary targets. The one very rotten tree had some dents in it from getting hit.
It is amazing how fast you can go through alot of paintballs.
My wife was surprised how quiet the gun was, she was worried it would be loud like my tater gun.
One of the guys at work let me know my gun was such a deal because
it was rebuilt by brass eagle because of some problem and sent back
and sold on clearence. Mine works fine and I haven't had any problems.
I would think it would have had a sticker or something on it saying Refuribished?

AP - Papers Find No Clear Florida Winner
USA Today, however, concluded that Al Gore probably lost between 15,000 to 25,000 votes .
The papers found Gore's name was marked on overvotes far more often than Bush's name.
USA Today and The Miami Herald reported Friday that George W. Bush would have narrowly won
a hand recount under the strictest standards for judging votes, while Al Gore would have won under the most liberal.
Overvotes leaned to Gore
Gore wins narrowly under two undervote standards, by margins of 332 and 242 votes;
Bush wins narrowly under two other undervote standards, by 407 and 152 votes.
All are closer than Bush's official 537-vote margin.
The Herald found that an astonishing 108,115 overvotes -- 97 percent of the total -- are lost forever.

paintgun fun @Thursday, May 10, 2001 - 13:47:24 - tu
I was able to try out my paintgun last night. I went through 3 cartridges and
the last one we counted 30 rounds. I thought the velocity was a little low, I
don't have alot to go by. It was pretty accurate and not too loud. I can see
how easy it would be to spray alot of paint with a semi-auto. I may get a 12oz
tank if one of the guys does get a refill station. I stripped down the gun last
night and increased the velocity just slightly. The gun is very simple to take
apart and I used a bit of gun oil on the bolt etc.. I still can't figuire out
what this spring on the velocity adjust is for, I didn't put it back on the gun.
We are looking to have games on both the 19th and the 20th.

I don't think about death all the time but I am not afraid of death, I realize its a natural

I have a bigger problem with any religion that tries to rationalize a childs death as an act of god.

Shockwave Dilbert Game
Got this in the mail today. I got a chuckle out of it.
Washington (AP)--The GOP National Committee announced today that it is changing the Republican
emblem from an elephant to a condom because it more clearly reflects the Party's political stance:
A condom stands up to inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of
pricks, and gives one a sense of security while screwing others.
Hmm, SETI has mysteriously disapear off a couple machines. I can imagine it would be
some kind of religious type who is worried we may find aliens and his god and beliefs might come
into question. I would think if he is so devote he would help look for them because his god wouldn't
let little green men exsist in his perfect world.
