House Votes 215-214 to Lift Debt Limit to $6.4 Trillion
The vote marks the first increase in the U.S. government's credit limit in five years
and lifts the debt limit to $6.4 trillion from $5.95 trillion. House Democrats said they
opposed the debt-ceiling bill because the boost was made necessary by Republican
tax cuts signed into law last year.
