Pentagon Defends Gen. Who Chided Muslims
Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin has made several speeches
some in uniform — at evangelical Christian churches in which
he cast the war on terrorism in religious terms.

Boykin said of a 1993 battle with a Muslim militia leader
in Somalia: "I knew that my God was bigger than his.
I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol."

“Well, is he [bin Laden] the enemy? Next slide. Or is this man [Saddam] the enemy?
The enemy is none of these people I have showed you here.
The enemy is a spiritual enemy. He’s called the principality of darkness.
The enemy is a guy called Satan.”
Why are terrorists out to destroy the United States? Boykin said:
“They’re after us because we’re a Christian nation.”

“The enemy is not the terrorists.” He spoke of the Bible’s reference to Principalities of Darkness.
“The enemy has come against us in a spiritual realm.”
Boykin compared the radical Islamic fundamentalists to the radical “hooded Christians” of
the United States. “There are Muslims who worship here and support the United States,”
he said, pointing out that those who act violently in the name of their religion do not
reflect the principles of Islam.
Nor do they reflect the principles of the Judeo-Chrisitan roots of the United States, he said.
