The man was identified as Antonio Gastelum Sanchez, 34, of La Quinta.
The incident began about 3:15 a.m. when sheriff’s deputies responded to several reports that a man armed with a machete was attempting to break into homes. A deputy then used a pepperball launcher and struck the man with several projectiles containing an irritant that causes watery eyes and shortness of breath. The suspect, however, continued walking forward and attempted to get into a parked patrol cruiser, deputies said.

RUMSFELD: Well, Iraq was in a battle, war with Iran. And the United States had just had 241 Marines killed. And President Reagan asked me to take a leave of absence from my company and serve as a temporary special envoy, and I traveled throughout the Middle East for a period of months. And we were trying to get the Syrians to get out of Lebanon and stop killings Americans at the Marine barracks. And among other things, we believed that it would be helpful if Saddam Hussein's Iraq would behave in a way in that region that would be helpful to our goals with respect to Syria and the terrorist threat that existed. And we decided it was worth having me go in and meet with him. In that visit, I cautioned him about the use of chemical weapons, as a matter or fact, and discussed a host of other things.

The government's official spokesman, Jean-Francois Cope, said Rumsfeld would do better to listen to the "wise" advise of the 'old Europe' gained through its long history.
"When one is an old continent, a continent with an old historic, cultural and economic tradition, one can sometimes inherit a certain wisdom, and wisdom can be a good adviser," he told reporters.

Prosecutor drops charges in shooting of 4 officers
Investigators concluded detectives did not announce that they were police just before smashing down Cauthorne's door with a battering ram and rushing in to look for drugs, State's Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy said at a news conference this morning in Clarence Mitchell Courthouse.
Jessamy confirmed as much today, saying Cauthorne, 26, acted out of a reasonable fear when he fired six shots from a .45-caliber handgun at the raiding officers.

When NASA stopped funding the SETI project in the early '90s, Sullivan said, Allen stepped in with money to keep it alive. In August 2000, he said, Allen and Myhrvold's support for the telescope project reinvigorated the entire enterprise. Astronaut-obsessed man threatens to crash plane
The man as a 31-year-old German from Darmstadt, a city some 25 miles south of Frankfurt. Television and radio stations named him as Franz-Stephan Strambach, a student. "I want to make my great idol Judith Resnik famous with this," he said in a call from the plane to the channel. "She deserves more attention, she was the first Jewish astronaut, and maybe that's why she isn't really considered."
Resnik was among the seven astronauts killed when the shuttle Challenger exploded seconds after take off on Jan. 28, 1986, from Cape Canaveral, Fla.
Strambach's name appears as the webmaster of an Internet site devoted to Resnik, with links documenting her career, death and efforts to remember her, including the position in the night sky of an asteroid carrying her name.

Spent the New Years day off doing absolutely nothing. I spent part of the day working on a web page.
The rest of the day I spent with my family. I tried to torture myself by playing Battlefield 1942 MP demo over my 56k dialup connection. Between bad servers and bad ping times I soon realized why I only
play multi-player games at LAN parties. I was on a Gary Coleman's 1942 server and having some fun for a few minutes, its just the other hour or two of dial-up was torture. It seems the platies and guppies I have in the aquariums are randomly popping out little fry babies. Some of the male guppies we have are just so brilliantly colored. We have this one momma female guppy, she is like mutantly huge even when shes not pregnant.So I spent way too much time on this Kukri Knife Collection Page.
I even included fancy little clickable popup image enlargements.
It's done, but I am sure I will update and maintain it no and again.
