"We like non-fiction," Moore said of documentary-makers, "and we live in fictitious times.
We live in a time when we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president."
About this point, the boos started to drown out the cheers. Moore continued:
"We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons,
whether it's the fictition of duct tape or the fictition of orange alerts.
We are against this war, Mr. Bush! (Cue orchestra.)
Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you!
And any time you've got the pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up."
Asked backstage why he made the remarks, Moore answered: "I'm an American."
"Is that all?" a reporter asked.
"Oh, that's a lot," Moore responded.
"I am an American, and you don't leave your citizenship when you enter the doors
of the Kodak Theatre. What's great about this country is you're able to speak your
mind, and that's what I do," Moore insists. "I don't stop being who I am when I
come into this ceremony."
He said the Iraqi conflict sends a negative image to the nation's youth.
"What was the lesson that we taught children of Columbine this week? ...
That violence is an acceptable means to resolve a conflict," Moore said backstage.
Moore dismissed the jeers, telling reporters: "Don't report that there was
split decision in the hall because five loud people booed."
"I say tonight I put America in a good light," he said praising the decision
to push ahead with the Oscars despite the war raging in the Middle East.
"I showed how vital it is to have free speech in our country and all Americans
have the right to stand up for what they believe in," he said
Moore said he saw "the entire place stand up and applaud." Moore said "five loud people booed,"
whom he joked were his family and friends. He said he asked them to boo because "Hollywood
has such a bad rap of being monolithic in their politics, like they're all a bunch of left-wing
Democrats out here."

Phone bugs found in EU offices
Telephone bugs have been found in EU offices used by the British, French and German
delegations, it was revealed today. Three more, so far unidentified, delegations have
also been the victims of wire-tapping.The discovery comes two weeks after the Observer revealed that the US had been
bugging security council members Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Bulgaria, Guinea and Pakistan.
Wiretapping Found at French, German, UK EU Offices
The wiretapping devices, found in a routine security sweep on February 28, were attached
to phone lines to delegation suites used regularly by national leaders, ministers and senior
officials attending EU meetings.
The countries targeted were France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain and Austria, the officials said.

Daschle says Bush has failed `miserably'' in diplomacy, forcing America to war
"I'm saddened, saddened that this president failed so
miserably at diplomacy that we're now forced to war,"Daschle under fire for Iraq comments
Daschle said he was "saddened that we have to give up one life because this
president couldn’t create the kind of diplomatic effort that was so critical for our country.”
I think he is just speaking out of fustration, its like we went through the motions but screwed
it up everytime we could. We gonna make em show us their cards. We were asked to muzzle
Rumsfeld. I myself blame Rumsfeld andn Cheney for for alot of it, Bush for screwing up relations
with everyone before all this. Kyoto treaty, World Court, Steel Tariffs, Wasting all that 9/11 unity.

Senior British MP resigns over war stance.

"If military action proceeds without a new resolution of the security council, Canada

Russia Says War in Iraq a Mistake and Illegal
March 6th
"It's time for people to show their cards and let people know where they
stand in relation to Saddam," Bush said at a prime-time news conference.Bush demanded a vote on the draft resolution regardless of the outcome,
challenging Security Council members to ''show their cards'' immediately.
Shortly thereafter, Bush administration officials reversed course, agreeing
to postpone or cancel the vote if it appeared it would not pass.
March 17th
''I was the guy that said they ought to vote. And one country voted.
They showed their cards, I believe. It's an old Texas expression,
`Show your cards,' when you're playing poker,'' Bush said.
''France showed their cards.''
Well I guess we walked out of the card game when we knew that
we weren't going to win. We showed them.

It should be a fun week. The U.N. vote, or lack of vote. War just days away.
Most seem to think its going to be an easy win. Lets just say Maybe, but
what about the mess afterward?Iraq has 20-24 Million people in the entire country. Baghdad alone has 4-5 million people,
thats alot more than most people would guess. They may all greet us with open arms
for freeing them, but how long will that last? Supposedly several thousand volunteers
have entered Iraq to help defend against infidels. The Turks will probably go into Northern
Iraq and squash the Kurds. They only have about 50-75,000 troops. The Shia militias
have several thousand troops trained in Iran in the north of Iraq. The Shia are the
majority but have been treated rather poorly by the Saddam's Sunni Bath Party.
Lets not forget the thousands slaughtered when they rose up against Saddam
when George's daddy told them to.
I picture it all happening like Tito died in Yugoslavia meets Lebanon.
This will be our mess for 2 years? 5 year? 10+ years?

Saddam Could Launch First Strike
U.S. officials fear that once President Bush signals the U.S. is headed to war,
Saddam Hussein will strike pre-emptively, administration sources told But if the United States takes action to stop an Iraqi first strike, especially if they try to
seize and protect the oil fields, U.S. officials admit they may end up starting the war itself.
So We preempt our preemptive war to protect our troops we put in harms way.

Thoughts on things.
Second US diplomat John H. Brown quits over Iraq policy"I am joining my colleague John Brady Kiesling in submitting
my resignation from the Foreign Service - effective immediately -
because I cannot in good conscience support President Bush's war
plans against Iraq," he said.
"Throughout the globe the United States is becoming associated with
the unjustified use of force," Brown said in the letter, a copy of
which he sent to AFP.
"The president's disregard for views in other nations, borne out by
his neglect of public diplomacy, is giving birth to an anti-American
century," he said.
"I joined the Foreign Service because I love our country," Brown said.
"Respectfully, Mr Secretary, I am now bringing this calling to a close,
with a heavy heart but for the same reason that I embraced it."

"dumb and not worth the risk". "Going to war against Iraq, invading Iraq,
is exactly the course of action most likely to cause Saddam to lash out

"It's bad policy, dumb policy, if only because all of the other options
have not yet been exhausted," he said.

U.S. Won't Bomb Iraq Bio Weapons
What if we do hit something chem/bio by accident? Say in Baghdad?Toxic gas, drugs in Bush arsenal
The United States is preparing to use the toxic riot-control agents CS gas and
pepper spray in Iraq in contravention of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
"Calmative" gases, similar to the one that killed 120 hostages in the Moscow
theatre siege last year, could also be used.
US could bring fog of war to Iraq's skies
Security insiders believe GPS services will probably be "degraded" if war starts
to stop hostile forces using them. Of course, jamming is a two-edged sword.
Iraq reportedly has Russian-made transmitters that could jam military GPS by
emitting more powerful signals on the same frequencies. But the US Air Force
says it is not too worried.
Officials deny knowledge of new weapon
US 'E-bomb' set to destroy Iraqi communications
Hi-tech weapons may help - or hinder - US war effort
We know our GPS systems are vulnerable to jamming because we've
jammed them ourselves with disturbing ease," said Hewson of Jane's.
Analysts say it's also possible Iraq got a similar Czech-made system
called Tamara. In 1999, Czech intelligence officials claimed a Tamara
system allegedly obtained by Yugoslavia was responsible for unmasking
an F-117 shot down over Serbia.

U.S./Iraq War Could Start Next Week
With the Bush administration facing one political setback after another, some in the
administration are urging the president — if he is convinced war must be fought
to cut his political losses and do it now. The 6:30pm TV version mentioned a 3/4 day window when the
U.N. and the Reporters will be told to leave the country.
Thats when the shit will start hitting the fan.

Turkey forces Pentagon to look at Plan B
Pentagon planners decided weeks ago to send
the entire 101st Airborne to Kuwait as a backup.
If Turkey does not allow access to its airspace, the two aircraft carriers
in the Mediterranean would have to move south to the Red Sea and send
their planes to Iraq by flying over Saudi Arabia Aircraft carrier USS Nimitz
is expected to arrive in the region in early April.
