Owners Of A Controversial Buddha Statue Get A Reprieve. (dec 5th)

The Memphis code enforcement delivered a letter to the Buddha owners.
The letter says the statue may stay on their front lawn.
The public services division says the big white Buddha doesn't break any
codes and that the homeowners are free to leave it where it is.

The stone Buddha statue is 15 feet tall.
An inscription on the base indicates it's a depiction of Maitreya Buddha.

"In this day and time, we don't dare say a whole lot,"
said David Russell, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church across the street.

"We have three wooden crosses out in our lot, and I guess
someone could find those just as offensive as the Buddha."
