Injured Italian hostage back home
Sgrena was hit by shrapnel Friday when U.S. soldiers fired on her car
as it approached a coalition checkpoint. The Italian intelligence agent
who helped negotiate Sgrena's release was killed when he shielded her
from the gunfire. Her editor said the dead agent, Nicola Calipari,
had thrown his body over Sgrena's in order to protect her.
Two other intelligence agents in the car were also injured.
